Engineer By Day, Realtor By....Day, too

This is that SMILE:

This was taken the day he came home after officially becoming a Realtor with McGraw Realty. Wrapped in this smile was months worth of work: studying for the exams, taking the first exam, putting up with a worried wife, contemplating holding off Realty to take an engineering job back in Nebraska, that job falling through, putting up with a worried wife, taking the next exam, interviewing realty companies in Tulsa, putting up with a worried wife, and finally choosing a realty company.

Thirty minutes before he walked through the door that day, I was cleaning up the toys, thinking about our family routine when Aaron comes homes. I was wishing to myself that he would scoop the kids up the instant he walked through the door, tickle them, play with them...just let them know that he missed them and loved them. I decided that perhaps that simply wasn't my husband's personality.

When Aaron came home that day, what did he do? Scooped each of the kids up in a big tickle hug. He played with them for just few minutes, but it was such an intense play - the kind where you know that Dad is excited to see you, exactly what I had been wishing for moments before. I held the tears back, but oh were they there! I thanked him for his enthusiasm and asked him where in the world it came from. He explained that he was doing what made him come alive, so it was easy for him to be alive in his other areas of life. 

We both won't expect this reaction every day upon his return home - Realty certainly has its ups and downs just like every other job - but knowing that it is possible gives me hope and confidence that this is the path God is calling us to take.
