John the Baptist Birthday

I love being Catholic. There's always a reason to celebrate something!

June 24th was the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. In other words, it was his birthday! So, we made him a birthday cake because 1) there are only 3 birthdays that the church celebrates during the year: Jesus, Mary, and John the Baptist. I figure it's kind of a big deal, so we should celebrate...and 2) ever since my Grandma Wanda sent me a recipe for microwave chocolate cake, I had been craving chocolate cake. Blaise and I set out to make a homemade chocolate cake - in the oven, not the micro. I don't think the microwave could handle a full sized cake. If you know anything about me and my baking skills, you're probably laughing. Don't worry, I was skeptical, too, but we followed the recipe very carefully, and even though I think 1/3 of the batter was eaten (not just by Blaise, I admit), the cake still turned out moist and delicious!

Blaise put the sprinkles on all by himself.

We asked Blaise how old he thought John the Baptist was. He said two, so we put two candles on the cake, sang Happy Birthday, and dug in!
