I woke up from naptime before Blaise (for once!) on Tuesday, February 28th, feeling icky. I attributed it to my usual evening sickness, even though it was hitting a few hours early. I sat down at the kitchen table to balance the checkbook and tried not to think about my stomach. About 15 minutes later, I heard the garage door open, and I immediately knew something was wrong. 4:00 in the afternoon and Aaron was already home? Yep. I wasn't the only one with stomach problems.
It wasn't more than an hour later when chaos ensued. I'll spare the messy details. Let's just say that it's very difficult to take care of a sick husband, your sick self, and a very frightened toddler all at the same time. Oh, did I mention we were only left with one roll of toilet paper in the house? When life happens, it sure happens.
By the next morning, Aaron and I had recovered. We were weak from not eating or drinking, but we were well enough to take care of our guy. Aaron took Blaise for a drive in the morning while I rested, and I took Blaise outside in the afternoon so Aaron could rest. His rest time was interrupted by...you guessed it...life.
Blaise and I were outside working in the front flower bed. Blaise was having fun playing with the St. Francis statue until he smashed his finger between the base of statue and the sidewalk. Tears (from Blaise and Mom) and blood gushed, and Dad decided we should take him to ERgent Care to make sure he didn't need stitches. He didn't (thank goodness), but try keeping a bandaid or any sort of wrap on a toddler for more than 30 seconds!
The wound, Day 1.
Blaise is such a man that he bit the loose skin off in the bathtub that night. Gross.
I almost chopped my finger off!
He was very good at showing people his "hurt finger." And when he gave that look with those big brown eyes...oh, how I wanted to make it all better!
The wound, Day 5.
The wound, 1 Week.
And so, life happens. I tried to look on the bright-side (I know, surprising for this pessimist!), and I found several silver linings.
And so, life happens. I tried to look on the bright-side (I know, surprising for this pessimist!), and I found several silver linings.
1) The bathrooms only had to be disinfected once.
2) Aaron didn't have to take work off for him to be sick AND for me to be sick.
3) Blaise's first major injury occurred when both of us were home. How I would've done it by myself, I have no idea!
4) I had the BEST sleep that I've had in years the night after we were sick. I guess puking, pooping, and a trip to ERgent Care will do that to you.

Every time you post pictures of Blaise I think, "Ok, THAT'S my favorite Blaise picture". Happens every time. He's so dang cute.
ReplyDeleteAhh, thanks, Lynn! I can't wait for you to see his cuteness in person. :)
